WBJB-FM 90.5 The NIGHT
Brookdale Public Radio from Lincroft, New Jersey
Public Radio in the Red Bank area is alive and well in the form of 90.5 The NIGHT based out of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. Their official format is AAA (Adult Album Alternative) with a good mix of current and older music. But various labels and explanations don't say as much as seeing actual songs. Below is a playlist from today, January 24th, 3:01pm - 8:47pm. A perfect example of the great mix of music they play.
They also have a listen online option if you are outside of the Red Bank area, or God forbid, outside of New Jersey. I checked out their website in depth to prepare for this post and there is some interesting information and functionality. Their homepage has music news, a couple of videos, 6 podcasts created by the station and a bunch of links at the bottom of the page. Two of those links along with the home page link are below.

Which One's Pink
BBC Pink Floyd
documentary on VH1 Classic
Which One's Pink
(2007) will be on VH1 Classic Thursday Night, Jan 19th at 8pm EST and at additional
times listed below. The movie covers
the early psychedelic years featuring Syd Barrett in the 60's, the 70's which
includes the releases of Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall followed by other
commercial successes in the 80's and 90's. It also includes a reunion concert, orchestrated by Bob Geldof in 2005.
I am most familiar
with their work from the 70's so I'll be interested to see the years before and
after their Dark Side of the Moon/The Wall era.
Added bonus, the
January 19th airing will be followed by The Wall. Probably edited and with commercials but it
will hopefully keep the Pink Floyd vibe going well into the night.

Got Mandolin Lessons?
You bet. Lessons also available for guitar, piano, drums, upright bass, banjo and others. It's part of ArtistWorks online instrumental music instruction. Instructors who are established on their respective instruments present video lessons (beginner, intermediate or advanced) as part of a package. Lessons are taught by a specific instructor, who you select when enrolling and whose videos are available 24/7, as you learn at your own pace. The price is $90 every 3 months, $150 every 6 months or $240 every 12 months. Included in the price is a service where you can send a video of yourself playing a particular lesson and the instructor will reply via video with a critique of your playing.
An article from yesterday's LA Times and the ArtistWorks website (links below) have more information. From what I've read and seen (promotional trailer and behind the scenes videos below), it looks like it might work well. Of course, I'm very curious how well this type of learning works in the real world.
One last note, the LA Times article mentions three other music instruction websites: TrueFire, JamPlay and WorkshopLive. I'm guessing there must be many more options with varying levels of price and interactivity.
