Asbury Park ATP Festival coming Sept 2012

ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES MUSIC FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 21-23, 2012

All Tomorrow's Parties, a promoter which has presented music festivals primarily in England but also worldwide, will present the I'll Be Your Mirror USA 2012 music festival for the second straight year in Asbury Park, NJ.

The full weekend lineup is still being confirmed but Saturday Sept 22nd is mostly set. The 22nd will have a curator in the form of Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs. It is custom for the curator to personally pick the bands which will perform that day. The 22nd will include The Afghan Whigs, Sharon Van Etten, Mark Lanegan Band (former lead singer of the Screaming Trees) and others. See link below for current list of performers.

As a side note, the organization that is presenting the festival is All Tomorrow's Parties. The actual name of the festival is I'll Be Your Mirror. Where do these names come from? These would be the names of a July 1966 single from the Velvet Underground (All Tomorrow's Parties) and the B-side (I'll Be Your Mirror).

Tickets go on sale today - Feb 27, 2012.

Sharon Van Etten - Tramp

Record by Brooklyn based singer/songwriter released today

Sharon Van Etten, born and raised in New Jersey, currently based in Brooklyn by way of Tennessee, released Tramp today. If you are not familiar with Sharon Van Etten, the Feb 5th NYT Magazine article The Rough Harmonies of Sharon Van Etten tells some of Sharon's journey which has shaped her and her music.

I came across Sharon via Cheryl Waters on KEXP Seattle. Listening to KEXP one day a couple of months ago, I stopped in my tracks when Sharon Van Etten came on. I immediately emailed the station and Cheryl replied and told me extensively about her. The next day Cheryl played Sharon again, stopping in my tracks again, I was well on my way as a huge fan.

If you need to catch up on some of her previous material as I did, SVE's release Epic has been out since September 2010.  Below are links to two late 2010 performances. The NPR video is required listening/viewing!
